Features
Every tool you need to choose the right repository
Structured discovery, readable repository pages, a single menu for getting the code, and sessions that keep your data safe. Here is everything inside OpenSourceLabs.
At a glance
Six feature groups, one workflow
Each group below is a building block of the same path: find, compare, read, and start.
Discovery
Nested categories that mirror how you think
The tree goes as deep as the subject needs. Development contains Frontend, and Frontend contains Angular. Every category page lists its children and the repositories filed in that branch.
Unlimited depth
Categories nest as far as the topic requires, from broad areas down to a single framework.
Readable addresses
Each category has a clean URL like /explore/development/frontend/angular that you can bookmark and share.
Breadcrumbs everywhere
Always see where you are in the tree and jump back up a level in one click.
Child category cards
Category pages show their sub-categories with repository counts before the list begins.
Lists & filters
Repository lists you can page, sort, and filter
Lists are ordinary pages of 100 with real links, up to 50 pages per category. Sort and language filters are part of the URL, so sharing a view just works.
100 per page
Predictable, scannable pages instead of an infinite feed you lose your place in.
Language filter
Show only TypeScript, C#, Python, or any language present in that category.
Sort by signal
Order by stars, forks, or the most recent push to find active projects.
SEO-friendly by design
Clean category pages are indexable; sorted and filtered variants are marked noindex.
Repository pages
A repository page built for reading, not browsing files
Each project opens inside OpenSourceLabs with the facts you need before you clone: owner, description, topics, stars, forks, watchers, open issues, license, default branch, last push, and the README.
Rendered README
Rendered from HTML the API already sanitized, then sanitized again in the app.
License at a glance
SPDX license name and identifier shown next to the title, never buried.
Default branch aware
Relative images and ZIP downloads use the repository’s real default branch.
Install steps
Copyable install commands generated for the project’s stack.
Insights
Language mix and health signals in one glance
A language bar colored with GitHub Linguist colors and the activity facts that tell you whether a project is alive.
Linguist colors
The same colors developers already recognize, with percentages per language.
Last push
Relative and absolute dates so you can spot abandoned repositories quickly.
Community signals
Stars, forks, watchers, and open issues side by side.
Get the code
One Code menu for every way to start
When a project fits, getting started is one click away. Copy, download, or open it in the tool you prefer.
HTTPS clone URL
Copy the clone URL with a confirmation, ready for git clone.
GitHub CLI command
Copy gh repo clone owner/name if you live in the terminal.
ZIP download
Download the default branch as a ZIP without installing anything.
StackBlitz & GitHub
Open an instant online editor or jump to the repository on GitHub.
Search
Search across the whole catalog
Search runs on the OpenSourceLabs API against our own index. The app never calls api.github.com and never needs a GitHub token.
Full-catalog search
Find repositories by name, description, and topics across every category.
No rate limits for you
Queries hit our index, not your personal GitHub API quota.
Jump to context
Every result links to its category so you can see related projects.
Accounts & security
Sessions that stay out of web storage
Sign-in uses a short-lived access token kept in memory and a refresh cookie the API sets as HttpOnly. Logging out clears both.
In-memory access tokens
Nothing sensitive in localStorage, so injected scripts have less to steal.
HttpOnly refresh cookie
Refresh tokens are invisible to JavaScript and scoped to the auth API.
Strong password rules
Live feedback while you create a password that meets the rules.
Private dashboard
Your dashboard and account pages are rendered only in your browser, never cached on a server.
Compare
Why a catalog beats a flat search box
Keyword search is great when you know the repository name. A curated catalog is better when you know the kind of project you need.
| Capability | Flat keyword search | OpenSourceLabs |
