How it works

From idea to cloned repository in three steps

A guided path replaces endless keyword searches. Every step has its own page, its own link, and the facts you need.

  1. 01

    Pick a category

Start broad, then go deeper. Templates › Restaurant or Development › Backend › .NET. Every level is a page you can bookmark.

  2. 02

    Narrow the list

Sort by stars or recent pushes and filter by language. Lists are paged, so you always know where you are.

  3. 03

    Read, then clone

Open the repository page for the README, license, and install steps. When it fits, copy the clone command.

Platform

Everything you need before you clone

One reading room for repositories: structure, context, and the code links, designed to work together.

Discovery

A category tree that goes as deep as you need

Development › Frontend › Angular. Every branch is a real page with its own address, children, and repository list.

Reading

README, rendered and sanitized

Read the docs inside OpenSourceLabs. Relative images resolve against the default branch.

Facts

Languages, license, branch, last push

A Linguist-colored language bar and the facts that matter for a decision.

Get the code

One menu for every way to start

Copy the HTTPS URL or GitHub CLI command, download a ZIP, or open in StackBlitz.

Search

Search our own index

Fast keyword search across the catalog, served by our API, not by your GitHub quota.

Lists

Lists you can actually page through

100 repositories per page, real ?page=2 links, sort by stars or recent pushes, and filter by language. Share a link and your teammate sees the same list.

Built around clear limits and honest numbers

100

repositories per page

Readable lists, not infinite scroll.

50

pages per category list

Up to 5,000 projects in every branch.

Who it is for

Made for people who read before they clone

Students, developers, agencies, and educators use the same catalog in different ways.

Students

Learning by reading real code

“I need a well-structured Angular project to study, with a README that actually explains how to run it.”

  • Learning category with worked examples
  • Install steps on every page

Developers

Shipping the next feature

“I want a .NET catalog API to compare against mine, maintained recently and with a permissive license.”

  • Sort by last push
  • License and branch at a glance

Agencies & freelancers

Starting client projects fast

“A client needs a restaurant site by Friday. I need three solid templates to choose from today.”

  • Template categories by industry
  • StackBlitz preview in one click

Educators & teams

Sharing curated lists

“I want to send my class one link that lists solid algorithm repositories, page by page.”

  • Shareable category and page links
  • Same list for everyone

Privacy by design

Your browser never talks to GitHub. We do.

OpenSourceLabs syncs public repository data on our servers and serves it through our own API. You never hand over a GitHub token, and README HTML is sanitized twice before it reaches the page.

  • Short-lived sessionsAccess tokens live in memory; refresh uses an HttpOnly cookie.
  • Sanitized contentREADME HTML is cleaned by the API and again in the app.
  • Essential cookies onlyNo advertising trackers. See our cookie policy.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Still curious? The About page explains how the index is built.

How the index works
Is OpenSourceLabs free?

Yes. Creating an account and browsing the catalog is free. The code itself stays on GitHub under each project’s own license.

Do I need a GitHub account or token?

No. OpenSourceLabs syncs public repository data on its own servers. Your browser only talks to our API, so you never paste a GitHub token.

Where does the repository data come from?

From public GitHub repositories. A scheduled sync worker refreshes metadata and READMEs, and our team files projects into categories.

Can I browse the code files here?

OpenSourceLabs is a reading room, not a code host. You get the README, languages, license, and install steps; for the files, clone or open the repository on GitHub.

What happens after I sign up?

You land on your dashboard, where you can search, jump into categories, and manage your account. The public website stays separate from the app.
